Drake makes history with a new trilogy album release

On May 15, 2026, Drake changed the traditional album release way completely, dropping a massive three-part project: Iceman, Habibti, and Maid of Honour all in one night. Since Drake’s heavy fallout in 2024 after his Kendrick Lamar feud, the 43-song release represents an artistic reconstruction rather than a standard comeback focused on commerciality.

Three albums, three single worlds.

Instead of mixing incompatible genres in one messy, overloaded tracklist, the trilogy represents three separate playlists, each focusing on a specific mood.

Iceman (18 Tracks): This is the dark, defensive core of the project. Built on heavy, minimal trap beats from producers like 40, Boi-1da, and others, it captures a sense of isolation. Drake uses tracks like "Janice STFU" to air out personal frustrations, touching on family health issues, broken friendships, and industry politics. The verses are sharp, aiming direct jabs at old rivals, including Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and Rick Ross.

Habibti (11 Tracks): Meaning "my love" in Arabic, this album switches to late-night R&B. It strips away the paranoia of Iceman and returns to the melodic, vulnerable style of his Views era. The production relies on soft guitars and ambient neo-soul keys, featuring integral vocal chemistry with longtime collaborator PARTYNEXTDOOR and a surprisingly soft performance from Sexyy Red.

Maid of Honour (14 Tracks): The final segment is designed purely for the clubs. Drake explores global dance rhythms, shifting between UK drill, afrobeats, house, and jersey club. It features a diverse international guest list, including the UK's Central Cee and dancehall staple Popcaan, proving that despite any domestic rap drama, his music still translates globally.

The Contractual Theory

Beyond the music itself, the industry and fans are guessing about the huge volume of the release. Three whole albums with 43 songs simultaneously have sparked theories that this trilogy is a calculated business move to fulfill his remaining album obligations under Universal Music Group. If true, this massive drop allows him to clear his contractual slate quickly, potentially paving the way for him to become a fully independent artist with complete control over his future recordings.

The Verdict and Market Impact

Regardless of the business side and circulating rumors, the release was a huge success. The public reaction shows a divide in modern music culture, but the commercial data of the albums prove an undeniable prosperity. While several major review publications criticised the project as emotionally monotone, the streaming numbers tell a different story. In its first week, the albums sold 463,000 copies and broke multiple Spotify records.

But the full scale of his achievement was revealed when the project completely monopolized the charts. By taking the top three spots on the Billboard 200 with Iceman, Habibti, and Maid of Honour in a row, Drake achieved a historic milestone never before seen in the streaming era. This multi-album dominance didn't just break physical records; it effectively hijacked the cultural conversation, blocking out other major releases and dictating the radio rotation for months.

Ultimately, Iceman shows an artist who refuses to modify his formula or apologize for the past. Instead of trying to win back skeptics with a concise, curated album, he chose to flood the market, forcing the industry to digest his music on his own terms, and the strategy clearly paid off.
